I have seen this idea several times in various ways in magazines, at my daughter-in-law's home, and in catalogs over the past few months....just greenery in glass vases.
Here are a few places I have seen the greenery in glass concept:
This one is from a recent issue of "Better Homes and Gardens". |
Here are some ideas from a Pottery Barn catalog. |
K. also has done greenery in glass...here is the post on her house in Birmingham. |
I used some real greenery and then some fake greenery too in the vignette on the kitchen table.
Although I am a fan of "faux botanicals", when an arrangement is going to be viewed up close, like this grouping on the table, I try to use at least 50% real foliage (and flowers if it is a floral arrangement).
It's a fresh look and very inexpensive.
The living area and kitchen are almost like one space so I carried over the greenery in glass theme over onto the mantle.
All of this greenery is artificial. It came from Hobby Lobby, Michael's and Dollar Tree. |
The broad heart-shaped leaves came from a 'bunch" of leaves which were cut apart.
The other leaves were individual stems. The monstera leaves were cut off of their stems to be coiled up in the glass vases. They were slipping down so I used double sided tape to keep them in place.
I can envision this look staying all summer...It has a summery, tropical feel that will be easy to maintain.
It is beautiful! I just love the idea. I can't live without indoor plants so this sort of decor is one of my fav. Lovely shots...it looks so fresh! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHope to see you on my blog:)
I love that look, too! I checked at my florist, and the giant broad leaf leaves are only a couple of dollars and last forever. You are so smart to mix faux with real; that's a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI used to do this years ago when I was rooting cuttings from my plants {back when I actually had live plants!}. It does make for a nice, simple look and greenery always adds a nice look to a home.
ReplyDeleteLove it. I am usually rooting something in a glass somewhere ...but nothing like this! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI never growing plants can have an easy side too !!! Love this !

All of your plants are so pretty and healthy looking. For some reason mine always like they are on their last leg! I actually have a green thumb outdoors but not so much on the inside.
ReplyDeleteMarianne :)
I totally love this look. I think the fresh greenery lasts longer than blooms. I sometimes cut my hosta and bring it in...it usually lasts well over a week. Your mantel is stunning and from your photos it looked very real. Well done!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! I love this. I have so many hostas! I am so going to try this.

I love the clean simplicity of this! So pretty! I love how you mixed faux with real. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYour greenery in glassware looks so fresh and summery. I would not have known that some of it was faux if you had not told me. I would leave it up all summer, too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a novel idea. You did a great job recreating, too.
ReplyDeleteI really love this greenery in a glass look. I will so copy this! :D I am visiting from Debbiedoos.

I've never thought of mixing faux with real greenery. That's a great idea! I recently saw a pic of some fern leaves in a tall clear vase and had thought I wanted to do that with some of my ferns. All of your vases look so pretty. Great copycat! Thanks for your visit to my post as well!
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job copying this concept and made it your own. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous idea! The living plants look stunning with the light coming through the glass, while the artificial leaves on the mantle are extremely effective there, especially with your painting!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.

you have some great insights and advice! I'm in the habit of just taking a cutting from a plant or shrub, popping it into a jar or vase, and placing that on a table, ledge or mantel. Then about 6 weeks later I need to plant it in dirt and start again!
ReplyDeleteHi Miss Kitty...
ReplyDeleteI just left a comment on Sherry's Open House party where she showcased your beautiful mantel! I love the large glass containers filled with the large leaf greenery! Soooo very beautiful and very summery looking! I love the look! Thanks for sharing more of your beautiful home with us...and the great tutorial!
I am really loving your blog, my friend! So glad that I found you!!!
Warmest summery wishes,
